Airways are broken up into 2 divisions. What are they? please easy explanation.
What is the function of the mucociliary escalator?
Solution
The respiratory tract or airways are divided into 2 divisions and they are
1. Upper airway
2. Lower airway: this is divided into right bronchus and a left bronchus
The function of the mucociliary escalator is to line bronchi an dinner bronchioles & this is going to prevent infection by acting as a barrier through pushing up and down of mucous
Tracheobranchial tree: It has trachea and it has subdivided into two main primary bronchi followed by secondary bronchi. These secondary bronchi subdivided into tertiary bronchi associated with bronchopulmonary segments to permit efficient gas flow with a certain partial pressure. Tertiary bronchi subdivided into terminal bronchioles ends with presence of cluster like alveoli for efficient gas exchange. At the end of the terminal bronchioles, respiratory bronchioles are produced with smallest diameter finally divided into alveolar ducts & alveoli.
