Given that x+ y = 2695 and y=x+285

Putting y=x+285 in first equation we get

x +x + 285 = 2695

=> 2x = 2410

=> x=1205

and y= 1205 +285 = 1490

The population of Las Vegas is 1205 thuosand and that of Sacramento is 1490 thousand.
