At De Anza College 20 of the students take Finite Mathematic
At De Anza College, 20% of the students take Finite Mathematics, 30% take Statistics and 10% take both. What percentage of the students take Finite Mathematics or Statistics? Please use the Vienn diagram to solve the problem. I got the following answer the first time, it was incorrect.P(Finite Mathematics) = 0.20, P( Statistics) = 0.30 P( Statitics and Maths) = 0.10 P( Stats OR Maths) =P( Statistics) + P(Maths) - P( Statitics and Maths) = 0.20+0.30-0.10 = 0.40 = 40%
Solution
Let
F = finite math
S = stats
Note that
P(F U S) = P(F) + P(S) - P(F n S) = 0.2 + 0.3 - 0.1
= 0.4 = 40% [ANSWER]
Iwonder why this is incorrect, though. Please report this problem to your instructor. Thanks!
