A laser has pulse energy of 2.5x10-3 J and pulse repetition rate of 18x106 Hz. If the pulse duration is 30 ps, find the peak power output and the average power output.

Solution

Pulse energy E = 2.5 x10 -3 J

Frequency f = 18 x10 6 Hz

average power output P = Ef

                               = 45000 W

Peak power output P \' = E / t

Where t = pulse duration time = 30 x10 -12 s

Therefore P \' = (2.5 x10 -3 ) /(30 x10 -12 )

                   = 83.333 x10 6 W
