Okay, so I drew the graph and it\'s pretty much a diamond from the x axis: -1 to 1, y axis: -1 to 1. I\'m looking a the solution guide and I\'m wondering how did they get ((1-y),y) and ((y-1),y) as points for delta y?
Also, why do they square root those points and minus them? I know to get the length of delta y but can someone explain why?

Solution

in the first quadrant you have the points (1,0) and (0,1) so the slope of the line is -1 the equation is y-1=-x x=1-y in the fourth quadrant you have the points (1,0),(0,-1) the slope is 1 y+1=x in the second quadrant the slope is 1 y-1=x in the third quadrant the slope is -1 y+1=-x x=-1-y So ((1-y),y) and ((y-1),y) are in the first and second quadrant It is not clear however the rest -is it a volume of rotation? around what axis? or is it the base and you have a z value? -what do you mean by delta? I need more data in order to answer more
