Find the? vertex, the? focus, and the directrix. Draw the graph of ?(x-2x?2?)^2=?6(y-1)

Find the vertex, the focus, and the directrix. Draw the graph of (x - 2)^2 = - 6(y - 1).

Solution

(x-2)^2 = -6(y-1)

standard equation of parabola is

(x-h)^2 = 4p (y-k)

where, h,k is the vertex

vertex = 2,1

4p = -6

p = -6/4 = -3/2

therefore focus = h, k + p = 2 , 1-3/2 = (2,-1/2 )

directrix = y= k-p = 5/2

directrix = y = 5/2
