Jen has three times as many nickels as dimes and six times as many quarters as dimes. Jen has a total of 50 nickels, dimes, and quarters. The total value of the coins is $8.75. How many of each coin does she have?
Solution
Jen has three times as many nickels as dimes
Let no. of dimes be x
So, nickels = 3x
six times as many quarters as dimes
quarters = 6x
We know :A nickel is worth 5 pennies. A dime is worth 10 pennies. A quarter isworth 25 pennies
x*10 + 5*(3x) +25*(6x) = 8.75*100
10x+15x+ 150x = 875
x = 5
So, no. of Dimes --5
No. of nickels --- 15
No. of quaters --- 30
