in the middle of the desert two roads which are 5 km apart run parallel and run east to west. a jeep traveling west leaves the southern road at 24 degree angle and drives toward the northern road. in between the roads the jeep makes a right in a new direction northeasternly. The jeep is still headed for the northern road. It meets the north road at a 37 degree angle. How many degrees did the jeep travel on the right turn

Solution

Lets start this way. First draw a picture to represent this problem. Once you have the picture, draw a vertical line from the southern road to the northern road - this should make a triangle with the jeeps travel path. What you have done is created right triangles. The top portion is 53 degrees and the bottom portion is 66 degrees. A triangles angles must sum to 180, so X = 180 - 66 - 53 = 61 degrees. The angle of turn was 61 degrees.
Now if this is a bit difficult - drawing pictures and solving problems in this way can be; just add the two numbers together and you get 61 degrees. Assuming the conditions of this problem, it will always work.

in the middle of the desert two roads which are 5 km apart run parallel and run east to west. a jeep traveling west leaves the southern road at 24 degree angle
