Ho do GPCRs effect gene expression? Briefly describe the processes involved.
Solution
G-protein coupled receptors are trimeric signal transducers. They have an N-terminal in exoplasmic face and C-terminal in the cytosolic face of plasma membrane. They have 7 membrane spanning regions. There is a G protein associated with each GPCRs. When a ligand binds with the receptors it activates the associated G protein. Which in turn activates the effector protein. These effector proteins activates the intracellular second messenger. Examples are rhodopsin in the eyes and odourants in the nose.
