An inductor is connected to a 20 kHz oscillator. The peak current is 67 mA when the rms voltage is 6.8 V. What is the value of the inductance L?

Solution

The impedance Z = Vp / Ip

Vp = sqrt 2 x Vrms

Z = (sqrt 2 x Vrms) / Ip

Z, the impedance, is the inductive reactance, XL = 2 pi f L

XL = (sqrt 2 x Vrms) / Ip

L = (sqrt 2 x Vrms) / ( 2 pi f Ip  )

= (sqrt 2 * 6.8 ) / ( 2 * pi * 20 * 103 x 67 x 10-3)

L = 0.00114 H = 1.14 mH
