There is another way to test whether a system is inconsistent (algebraically) is by simplifying each expression. getting them into y=mx+b form, and observing the simplified answers. 5y=35x-5 y= 7x-1 What happens when you simplify? What did you do? Now when you set them equal after simplifying what happens?

Solution

5y=35x-5 ----(1)

y = 7x -1 ------(2)

Lets simplify the expression (1) :

Divide by 5:

5y = 35x/5 -5/5

y = 7x - 5 ( standard form of y = mx +c)

y= 7x-1

So we equations 1 and 2 are same.So there are inifinte solutions for the equation
