He leads a sedentary life, has a desk job, and eats from the vending machines at work, from the MacDonald’s across the street. His current weight is 200# (91kg) and he is 5\'8\"tall. He has positive family history of Type 2 in both parents and a older brother. He frequently skips meals, sometimes not eating except in the morning, his coffee and a sweet roll, and then late in the afternoon, at which time he is so hungry that he will have 2 big Mac super sized. His fasting blood glucose today was 190, this is his 3rd in a row and the range has been 170 to 210. A post prandial glucose revealed a 240 glucose. What should always be implemented first? First and foremost, John has to change bring change in his diet habits and life style. He should focus on diet lesser in oils, saturated fats and trans fatty acids. Consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks in excess has to be avoided as these substances are associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. His diet should mostly have Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat .Eating a lot of white rice has to be avoided.
He has to change his life style and avoid stress as much as he can. Exercise is very much helpful for him as it will reduce amount of fats in the body and will burn extra amount of calories.
