Consider an acre of farmland renting for the average price of $150/ acre. Assume that it recieves an average of 250 W/m^2 PAR (photosynthetic active radiation) for 10 hr/ day over a 120 day growing season. If you could capture this at 50% efficiency, what would be the \"land rent-only cost of this energy?

Solution
First we need to know how hours will be recieves that energy
10 hours --------------- 1 day
x hours ---------------- 120 days
x = 10*120 /1 = 1200 hours
Now we need to know how much enery is produce or recieve in 1200 hours
if 250 W/m^2 ----------------- 10 hours
x ---------------------------------1200 hours
x= 1200*250 / 10 = 30,000 W/m^2
of this enery we only capture 50% so 30,000 * 0.50 = 15,000 W/m^2
Cost of this enery = 150[$/acre]/ 15000[W/m^2]= 0.01 $ / W
