If you are hiking in the mountains and for every 10000 feet
If you are hiking in the mountains and for every 100.00 feet you are walking horizontally, you have increased you elevation by 5.00 feet. What slope are you having to climb?
Solution
slope = rise / run
or we can say slope = vertical distance / horizontal distance
so for every 100 feet horizontally elevation is increased by 5 feet
therefore, horizontal distance = 100
vertical = 5
slope = 5 / 100 = 1 / 20
slope = 1/20
