tan(x -pi/4) = [ tanx - tanpi/4]/[ 1+ tanxtanpi/4]

= (tanx - 1)/( 1+tanx)

c) cos(x +y) +cos(x -y) = 2cosxcosy

LHS cos(x +y) +cos(x -y)

cosxcosy - sinxsiny + cosxcosy +sinxsiny

= 2cosxcosy

d) sin(8x) = 2sin4xcos4x

use the double angle identity:

sin2y = 2sinycosy

replace y = 4x

So, sin(8x) = 2sin4xcos4x = RHS
