You have 10 m of 0.55 mm -diameter copper wire and a battery capable of passing 14 A through the wire.

Please explain and show work.

Part A: What magnetic field strength could you obtain inside a 2.3 cm -diameter solenoid wound with the wire as closely spaced as possible? (Express your answer using two significant figures.)

Part B: What magnetic field strength could you obtain at the center of a single circular loop made from the wire? (Express your answer using two significant figures.)

Solution

l = N d

N/l = 1/d = n

n = 1 / (0.55 * 10-3) = 1818.18 m-1

B = mu0 n I = 4 pi * 10-7 * 1818.18 * 14

= 3.199 * 10-2 T

---------------------------------------------------

B = mu0 pi I / 10

= (4 pi * 10-7 * pi * 14) / (10)

= 5.52 * 10-6 T
