Give an example of a Sample Mean that a Health Professional

Give an example of a Sample Mean that a Health Professional would like to make a Statistical Inference about and why doing such a Statistical Inference is important. Your discussion MUST include the target Populations of your Statistical Inference activities along with what is actually being measured.

Solution

A health professional may be interested in computing the sample mean of blood pressure level.

His research may be something like this

In a particular state , he is interested to find out that whether the average blood pressure level of aged males are above 140 or not. Now in whole state, it is not possible to study all of the male population as it would take huge time, cost. So, to effectively test the conjecture in his hand he takes recourse to sampling. He, instead of, studying the whole aged male population selects a sample out of it(choice , nature, size, are at his discretion). Since the population is not reachable to him, so is the population mean. Hence he should use the sample mean of the sample he selected as it is a good estimator of the population mean. [All the properties unbiasedness, consistency are satisfied]. He then performs the usual testing procedure.

Target population here is \"Aged Males at risk of having high blood pressure\".

Here only the blood pressure of the respondent is measured. Later on, the researcher computes the sample mean based on the data provided by the respondents.
