Resulting from a light wind the air pressure imbalance of 10

Resulting from a light wind, the air pressure imbalance of 100 Pa acts across the 1.2 m by 2 m surface of the highway sign. Calculate the magnitude of the force acting on the sign. Calculate the moment produced about point A on the base of the sign pole.

Solution

>> Part (a)

Pressure Acting, P = 100 Pa

Area Exposed to Wind, A = 1.2*2 = 2.4 m2

As, Force = Pressure * Area

=> F = 100*2.4 = 240 N ..............MAGNITUDE OF THE FORCE ACTING ON THE SIGN BOARD .........

Part (b)...

As, Above Force is acting at the COG of the sign board.

and vertically it is at 6.5 m from A and at center.

As, Moment = Force * Perpandicular Distance

=> M = 240 * 6.5 = 1560 N-m .........ANSWER.........
