g) Explain the difference between a model, a prototype, and a proof of concept, giving examples of each. (3 marks)

Solution

Solution :

Proof of concept:

It is basically a conversion of an idea into a thing which shows that the idea can be executed successfully and it shows the core functionality of the idea but its something different from the prototype.

ex: Example can be carnot cycle which can be shown to solve the deign problem of an IC engine.

Prototype:

A prototype would be the scalable model of the real model which you need to specify the purpose. Prototype isnt the actual model since it wont fulfil your purpose.

ex: Hydraulic turbine prototype can be made to show how the power can be generated and how would be the flow.

Model:

Model is the one which will fulfil the purpose of acheiving the or solving the real world problem.

ex: A hydraulic turbine which is built from the development of the prototype and which can be used in the dams to generate power from the water flow.

So basically these are three stages in developing a model.
