The formula for work is WFd where Fforce and ddistance When

The formula for work is W=Fd, where F=force and d=distance. When F is in newtons and d in meters, W is in joules. Find W in joules and foot=pounds (foot-pounds) when F=98 N and d=55 cm.

Solution

F= 98N; d = 55cm = 0.55m

So, W = 98 * 0.55 = 53.9 Newton-meter = 53.9 Joules

Now we have 1 joule = 0.74 foot-pounds

So , W = 53.9 x 0.74 = 39.886 foot-pounds

So, W=53.9 Joules (or) 39.886 foot-pounds

The formula for work is W=Fd, where F=force and d=distance. When F is in newtons and d in meters, W is in joules. Find W in joules and foot=pounds (foot-pounds)
