Let us assume that your home is close to a Coffee house and when you are at home you have access to both home and Coffee house Wi-Fis. 1. Also assume that by accident, both these Wi-Fis has configured their APs to operate over channel 6. Will the 802.11 protocol completely break down in this situation? Discuss what happens when two stations, each associated with a different AP , attempt to transmit at the same time. 2. Now assume that one AP operates over channel 1 and the other over channel 11. How does your answers changes?
Solution
Solution:
1. The answer for the complete break down of 802.11 protocol if both the Wi-Fis has configured their APs to operate over channel 6 is No. This is because The MAC and SSID of home and coffee house AP is different. We can understand this with an example. Suppose there is a host which is using 802.11.It could send data to many APs, but the data will be processed only by that AP which is having the correct MAC. Although, if many APs uses the same wireless channel then the communication performance will reduce in this condition.
2. The answer will surely change as use of different wireless channels i.e. channel 1 and channel 11 will reduce the possibility of data collision thereby significantly enhancing the performance.
