Please answer the following question in full detail!

Imagine that one of your classmates tells you, “Resolution, contrast and magnification are all just the same thing, and they’re used to make the image clearer.” Explain what these terms mean for microscopy, the differences between them, and how they do, in fact, make the image clearer.

Please answer this detailed. This has to be in between 100-200 words

Solution

Answer :

Resolution of a microscope : Most important property of microscope which is defined as the ability of an optical system or objective lens to distinguish closely placed points as two separate entities. It depends on wavelength of light used for illumination and the numerical aperture of the objective lens. Greatest resolution is obtained with the shortest wavelengths of light and larger values of the numerical aperture.

Magnification : It is the power of enlargement. Magnification depends upon focal length of the lens and the length of the body tube. Magnification of human eye has 1X magnification power.A compound microscope will have ocular lens (eye piece lens) and objective lens.Generally ocular lens has a power of 10x. for example,

If you are using the 40X objective lens with 10x ocular lens, the magnification would be =

40x multiplied by 10x = 400x

So 400x will be the total magnification.

Total magnification = Ocular lens X objective lens
