Different types of electric machines

1) Generator : An electric generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. A generator forces electrons to flow through an external electrical circuit.

The two main parts of a generator are stator and rotor.Stator is a stationary part and Rotor is rotating part.Ttwo types are ac generator and dc generator

2) Motor : An electric motor converts eletrical energy into mechanical energy.the reverse process of generator.

most electric motors operate through intercting magnetic fields and current carring conductors to generate rotational force. main applications of motor are industrial fans,blowers,disk drives etc..

3) Transformer : A transformer is a static device that converts alternating current from one voltage level to another level ,or to the same level , without changing the frequency.transformer works on the principle of mutual induction.three types of transformers stepup,stepdown,isolation transformers.

4) Electriomagnetic-rotor machines : Electromagnetic-rotor machines are machines having some kind of electric current in the rotor which creates a magnetic field which interacts with the stator windings.the rotor current can be the internal current in a permanent magnet, a current supplied to the rotor through brushes or a current set up in closed rotor windings by a varying magnetic field.
