A university conducted a survey of 5,000 of their recent graduates. The graduates were asked to rate their satisfaction with their overall college experience on a 5-point scale from 1 = very unsatisfied to 5 = very satisfied. A comparison was made between those who had lived on campus for part of their college careers (
Solution
We can see that residents are more satisfied than commuters statistically, but the average score for the group residing in the college is 4.11 compared to 4.06 by commuters. Whilst the resident\'s satisfaction is *statistically* significant, so we can say it probably isn\'t due to chance, but then we are not aware of how many are residents and how many are commuters, which will also have significance in interpreting statistical inferences practically.
The increase was very small, and probably doesn\'t show much variation between both groups. If the cost to increase efforts in satisfying commuters is given, we can practically approach to a conclusion to take any action or not.
