Two computer programs together require 51.8 mb (megabytes) of memory. If one program requires 2.0 mb of memory (more than twice the memory of the other), what |are the memory requirements of each program?

Solution

let the memory required by one program = x MB

then memory required by other program = 2x + 2 MB

now

x + 2x + 2 = 51.8

3x = 49.8

x = 16.6 MB

so 1 program uses 16.6 MB and the other uses 35.2 MB
