Millie bought three packages of zinnia seeds for red orange
Millie bought three packages of zinnia seeds for red, orange and yellow flowers. She planted 34 seeds for red flowers, 33 for orange flowers, and 31 for yellow flowers in separate peat pots, but neglected to label the pots. What would be the probability that a peat pot picked at random would contain a seed for a yellow or an orange flowered plant? On New Year\'s Eve, the probability of a person having a car accident is 0.09. The probability of a person driving while intoxicated is 0.32 and the probability of a person having a car accident while intoxicated is 0.15. What is the probability of a person driving while intoxicated or having a car accident?

  Solution
6.First decide if its mutually exclusive event or not.
Addition Rule 1:P(A or B)=P(A) + P(B)- Mutually Exclusive
Addition Rule 2:P(A or B)=P(A) + P(B) -P(A and B)-Not Mutually Exclusive.
Here we can apply:
=0.32+0.09-0.15=0.26.
| P(intoxicated or accident) | = | P(intoxicated) | + | P(accident) | - | P(intoxicated and accident) |
