1 2 What is the elongation at fracture for the cast iron 3

1.

2. What is the % elongation at fracture for the cast iron?

3. Given the class average of 320kN for the cast iron, what is the compressive strength (in MPa)? (Use diameter as 20mm)

Solution

Solution :

Since cast iron is a brittle material there wont be a yield point hence the 3rd diagram at bottom represents the stress strain curve for it.

Using the avergae load

stress= load/area = 320000/314 = 1019.1 MPa
