What is the area in2 of a right triangle that has one 3 inch

What is the area (in^2) of a right triangle that has one 3 inch side and a 5 inch hypotenuse a. 11.0 b. 6.0 c. 13.0 d. 12.0

Solution

given one side = 3inches , hypotenuse = 5 inches

let other side be x inches

using pythagorous theorem

==> x2 + 32 = 52      (since hypotenuse2 = side12 + side22)

==> x2 + 9 = 25

==> x2 = 25 - 9

==> x2 = 16

==> x = 4

base and height of triangle are 3 inches , 4 inches

Area A = (1/2)(3)(4)       (since area of triangle of base b and height h = (1/2)(b)(h) )

==> A = 12/2

==> A = 6 in2

Hence option (b)

 What is the area (in^2) of a right triangle that has one 3 inch side and a 5 inch hypotenuse a. 11.0 b. 6.0 c. 13.0 d. 12.0Solutiongiven one side = 3inches , h
