The height of the Eiffel Tower is 68 feet more than three times a side of its square base. If the sum of these two dimensions is 1380 feet, find the height of the Eiffel Tower.
Solution
Let the side of its square base be \'a\' ft.
Then the height is (3a + 68) ft.
 The sum of these dimensions = (3a + 68) + a = (4a + 68).
But, given this sum is 1380 ft.
 So, (4a + 68) = 1380
 or 4a = 1312
 or a = 1312/4 = 328
So the height of the Eiffel Tower is (3x328 + 68) = 1052 ft.
