The top 5 networks or most common network attacks are:
1. Browser attacks-Browser attacks is when we try to access one website and there is an unwanted executable file is downloaded into our machine. This is the attack which grabs the control over the operating system through the browser. The solution is simple, have a strong anti-virus, update the browsers whenever available.
2. Brute force attacks-This is a type of an attack where the attacker try to access the protected data by trying the passwords and pin by trial and error method. That is the reason why, most banking or online applications suggest their customers to change their passwords frequently so that even if the attacker could able to crack your password, it should be mismathced with the new one.
3. Denial of service attacks- Denial of service attack making huge number of requests to the server from the same machine with varying IP addresses, making the server resourceless when actually a genuine user needs an access to the information. As the resources are already been granted to the fake IP, the server will not be able to serve the request.anti-virus and Firewalls can help the server to manage the unwanted traffic.
4. Secure Socket Layer(SSL) attacks-SSL is used to encrypt the data that is sent over a link between the browser and the website. SSL attack is hacking the data before it is encrypted.
5. DNS attacks- DNS attacks is something we experience regularly. When a user wants to open one website, we are redirected to another website without our intervention. This is because the DNS server is attacked. When the DNS server is attacked the a wrong IP address will be sent which is not related to the domain name given by the user. This happens because the port used by the DNS is put open at the firewalls to allow the domain name to IP mapping. The best solution to overcome this problem is obviously be up to date with the anti-virus patches and be random in picking the port numbers.
