Consider the exponential functions graphed in the figure below, and the six constants a, b, c . d , p , q y=a-br

Solution

The constants, q, d and b are all raised to the power x. But we see that for positive values of x, only y = abx decreases exponentially. This is only possible if b < 1 but greater 0. Therefore 0 < b < 1. Hence q and d are definitely not between 0 and 1.

For constants, p, c and a, they can have any values from 0 to 1 and their respective graphs will still follow the same trend. Therefore p, c and a can be from 0 to 1.

Hence the constants that could be or definitely are between 0 to 1 are: a, b, c and p.
