Solution
Carcinogens are agents that cause or promote tumor formation. The classes of carcinogenic agents are physical (radiations), chemicals (eg; benzoprene, benzene) and biological (oncovirus), which ultimately cause DNA damage.
Transversions can be defined as the substitution of a purine with a pyrimidine or vice versa, in the DNA. A transversion can only be reversed or restored by spontaneous mutations.
Transversion by chemical carcinogens happens in case of indirect acting carcinogens which require metabolic activation for them to act as carcinogens. These carcinogens are associated with the mutations of the p53 gene eg: Aflatoxin and mycotoxins. Aflatoxin is converted to aflatoxin-2,3 epoxide. After mutations by liver enzymes, aflatoxins become linked to G residues in DNA and induce G-T transversions.
