Use Matlab to analyze the resting pulse data we collected in class. Matlab code must show all steps of the analysis, including the creation of the plots; make sure to include comments in the code. The Matlab code should be supplemented by your analysis, which can be typed or written and submitted along with a print-out of the code
For the full 56-person data set (both columns below), perform the following analysis:
1. Plot the data using a histogram plot (label the axes).
2. Plot the data using a box plot (label the axes).
3. Calculate the mean, median, and standard deviation of the data set.
4. Demonstrate and discuss whether the data are normally distributed by (a) making several checks
using percentiles calculated in Matlab and (b) using an appropriate Matlab function to assess
normality.
Now split the data set into two 28-person data sets (the first column below is the first group and
the second column below is the second group). Do the same analysis above (answering questions
1-4) for the two smaller data sets.
5. From your analysis, do the two 28-person data sets illustrate the same characteristics as the 56-
person data set? Give evidence to support your answer.
6. Are the 3 data sets (the 56-person data set, the first 28-person data set, and the second 28-person
data set) representative random samples of the population of engineering students at City
College? Why or why not?
