A biodiverse hot spot is a specific geographic region with markable level of biodiversity which is in treat by humans.
One of the biodiversity hotspot is Tropical Andes. It comprises the Andes Mountains of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and the northern tropical portions within Argentina and Chile, covering over 158.3 million hectares. It is the topmost hotspot in the list of 36 hotspots for species richness and endemism. This particular hot spot contains about one-sixth of all plant life in the world of about 30,000 species of vascular plants, hence considered as a top hotspot for plant diversity. It also has large variety of amphibian, bird and mammal species, and takes second place to the Mesoamerica Hotspot for reptile diversity.
The Andes Mountains is the water tower of South America, It serves as the main river for Amazon and Orinoco rivers, It is the world’s largest and third largest rivers by discharge. It supplies water for 10 major cites and also acts as a best irrigation system in the area. Its forests store 5.4 billion tones of carbon, equivalent to the annual carbon emissions of 1 billion cars.
