3. A researcher was interested in the effect of wearing bright clothing on the competency rating of job interviewers. Two groups of n=10 interviewers were asked to rate how competent they believed their interviewee was after a 15 minute interview. For each of the interviewers, all the information presented was the same. The only difference was whether they were wearing bright clothes or dark clothes. The interviewers gave the individuals wearing bright clothes an average competence rating of M = 8.9 out of 10 with an estimated standard error of 1.56 points, and gave the individuals wearing dark clothing an average competency rating of M = 6.4 out of 10 with an estimated standard error of 2.04 points. After analyses were completed, researchers obtained a sample statistic of t = 1.98.
