     The quantities x and y are proportional? T or F The change in y is proportional to the change in x T or F If this is a linear relationship, write the formation in the form (y - y_1) = k (x - x_1) as in part B below, first using the corresponding pair of values (x_1, y_1), in the table. Otherwise type no. For a linear relationship of x and y_1 it\'s always true that Delta y = k Delta x where k is the constant rate of change of y with The statement Delta y = k Delta x can be written respect

  Solution
x = 2 ; y= 1.42
x= -1.2 ; y=- 0.853
x = 5.1 ; y= 3.621
a) If proportional than y/x = constant
1.42/2 = -0.85/-1.2 = 3.621/5.1 = 0.71
So, it is constant and hence quantities x and y are proportional
b) If change in y is proportional to change in x then ,
change in y/ change in x= constant
(-0.852 - 1.42)/(-1.2 -2) = ( 3.621 +0.852)/(5.1 +1.2) = 0.71 = k (constant)
So, change in y is proportional to change in x
c) y -y1 =k(x -x1)
select any (x, y) : (x1, y1, ) = ( 2, 1.42)
So, y - 1,42 = 0.71(x -2)
