Gained :- It has become an ease for the programmers to concern over cleaning up of the allocated memory. As in pointers , we need the memory which takes different values depending on the needs. But not to include it in java reduced this hectic process of cleaning the memories.

Lost : - When pointers were included inside the language , a programmer was having a full control over the allocated memory. But with excluding it , the programmers lost the control over it.
