e6b.9 I\'m having trouble defining if they are in series

E6B.9 In the circuit diagram shown in problem E6B.8, are bulbs A and B in series? Explain your response. E6SA E6B.10 If all of the light bulbs in the circuit diagram below have a resistance of 12 , what is the circuit\'s total resistance?

Solution

Answer:

(a)

Bulbs A and B are not in series, the equivalent resistance of bullbs B and C will be in series with resistance of A

In seies the current remains the same, let I be the current flowing through bulb A now this current divides in B and C

this implies that current would not be same in B as in A, So both A nad B are not in series.

(b)

Req of B and C    = (12 x 12)/ 24 = 6 ohm

Now this is in series with A

   R total   = 6 + 12 = 18 ohm
