a) The belt drives are more suitable at high speeds since In chain drives they can break and get thrown of the sprockets at high speeds since high loads will be acting on them .But this doesnt happen in the belt drives.

b) The main reason why flat belt drives are not used because of their slipping problem. And if we have to use a flat belt drive which should not slip higher pretension has to be given which can be avoided in v-type or other belt drives.
