Solution
Situation #1
1. What percent of Victim #1’s body surface area has 1stdegree burns?
a. 18%
2. What percent of Victim #1’s body surface area has 2nddegree burns?
a.9%
3.What would you say the prognosis is for this patient?
In case of first degree burns, we can see the patient feeling pain in the burned area and the outer skin will become red will show slight swelling also.
In second degree burn, in addition to the pain, the under skin will get affected, blisters can be seen, the whole affected area will look wet, shiny because of the exposed tissue. Immediate treatment should be given based on the extent of burns, person with more than 12% burns may go into shock. Should aid in their breathing, and administer replacement fluids intravenously and provide them antibiotics to prevent infection. Then start applying ointment and cover with sterile bandages.
Situation 2
a. What percent of Victim #2’s body surface area has 1stdegree burns?
a. 18%
b.What percent of Victim #2’s body surface area has 2nddegree burns?
a. 9%
c. What percent of Victim #2’s body surface area has 3rddegree burns?
c. 4.5%
2.What is the total burned surface area for Victim #2?
d.31.5% (18+9+4.5)
3. Burns that cover more than 20% of the body\'s skin surface can threaten homeostatis. Define homeostasis? Then list 3 function of the skin that would be effected and why?
Homeostasis is a self-regulating process and here through this process our biological systems will maintain stability by adjusting the conditions which are going to be optimal for survival.
Our survival is possible only when our body attains homeostatis. Due to bursn, the skin will be lost, thus normal homeostatic functions of the system will be lost like maintaining constat body temeprature, it cannot act a barrier no longer ad=nd also lose the complex immuno regulatory network protection.
