by observing both the figures we conclude that stresses developed in the fig2 are more but not critical compared to the stresses developed in fig 1.

here the cross section is having less area at the top. stress concentration is takes place in that minimum area section.

if we start applying load on the component beyond the yield strength deformation are intialy started at the corner.

if we keep on increasing the load application the deformation will prolong and cracks are developed.

from the above figures we observe that fig 2 is not critically loaded but developed stress were started flowing in section. but incase of fig 1 stress flow was just started.
