Using the structure of Ras how would a mutation in codon 12
Using the structure of Ras, how would a mutation in codon 12 contribute to cancer?
Solution
Ras is the signalling cascade protein invovled in the cell signalling process, the codons of 12,13 and 61 are very sensitive and most mutated causes the malignancy/tumours. 12 codon is more crucial contribute more chances of malignancy, due to point mutation, the glycine GGT is converted into aspartic acid, serine, arginine, valine any of these not glycine which results in abnormal expression of growth of cells leads to cancer.
Due to which k-ras molecules are termed as Ras Oncogenes.
