the base of an isosceles triangle is 2mm more than one third
the base of an isosceles triangle is 2mm more than one third the length of the equal sides. if the perimeter is 16mm, find the length of each side
Solution
we know that isoceles triangle has 2 equal sides
let base be b and equal sides be x mm
so b = 2 + 1/3*x , also the perimeter is sum of all sides which is b +2x
so 2+1/3*x +2x = 16
5x = 14*3
x = 8.4 , so
b = 2 + (1/3)*8.4 = 4.8 mm
so base is 4.8 mm and equal sides are 8.4 mm
