Individual as well as group decision making has their own pros and cons, and majorly depends upon situattion and the scenario on which the decision has to be made. In an organizational set up, both types of decision making are used based the situation.

If for a particular decision has the potentiality to effect a huge group of people and input is required from all to make the decision, then, group decision making process is the best one to resort to. If group concensus is not taken into account in such scenario, then it is often possible that the decision taken will be at fault. Decisions like cost cutting for a company, whether a company should go public or not etc. should be based on group decision making.

In other cases, where no input is required from a group and a decision needs to be taken spontaneously - individual decision making is the best one to use, like making an extra rebate arrangement for the customer while making sales, a team leader firing a team member because of his/her poor performance etc.

Individual decision making is quicker than a group one, as group decision making often needs to overcome the barrier of conflict and reach a concensus. On the otherhand a group decision making when attained results in higher synergy and motivation.
