Explain the pressureflow model for phloem transportSolutionA

Explain the pressure-flow model for phloem transport.

Solution

Also called mass flow hypothesis which best explains moment os sap through phloem.

As sugars are synthesized in the leafs, the leafs are considered as Sources. And the rest of the parts that take sugar from leaves are called sinks.

In leafs high concentration of sugars present, whic can draw the water from neighbouring cell or organs. This creates increased turgor pressure in leaves. As the turgor pressure is more in leaves and less in other parts of the plant, leaves transport the sugars in all parts ofof the plant by the cost of turgor pressure.

The transfer through phloem is bidirectional but xylem transport is unidirectional.
