How would this analysis change if you made this a directional hypothesis?
Consider a hypothesis that there is association between the scores of intelligence and the scores of anger H0: There is no association between the scores of intelligence and the scores of anger H1: There is association between the scores of intelligence and the scores of angerSolution
If this becomes a directional hypothesis, then the critical value of t would change, as it is now one tailed. It would be smaller in absolute value.
The sign of the critical value is the same as the sign of r (correlation), instead of +/- in two tailed test.
Now, if the t statistic here is farther to t = 0 than the critical t, then we reject the null hypothesis.
