The steam steadily circulating in the power cycle of a nuclear-steam-power plant. For safety reasons the nuclear reactor is limited to a temperature of 300 Celcius. The large cooling towers shown reject waste heat into the 300 K atmosphere. The maximum possible power cycle COP (thermal efficiency) is XX % percent. Enter a 2 digit integer (XX) to the nearest value.

Solution

Hello,

Assuming here COP cooling is required.

So input temperature of water. Thot = 300 deg C (573k), its steam actually!.

Output water temperature offer Colling in cooling tower = Tcold =300K.

So COP cooling = (Tcold/ (Thot -Tcold))

= 1.0989.

This is OK type cooling system which is just above 1.
