Practice Problem 85 During Drosophila development adult stru

Practice Problem 85 During Drosophila development, adult structures are formed from clusters of cells called imaginal discs, which are recognizable during larval and pupal stages. You are interested in the genes expressed in imaginal discs, and you have identified two such genes that are closely linked together Gene 1 is expressed in the imaginal discs that will become the adult antennae Gene 2 is expressed in the discs that will become the adult wings and legs. A map of the two genes is shown here. The arrows indicate the start of transcription. Gene 1 Gene 2

Solution

1. Insulator region acts as an insulator for the construct 13 where it is hiding the I band of construct 8 . In the table it is showing presence in GFP in antennal discs only. And antennal discs are expressed by Gene 1 only. So the answer is Gene 1 only.

2. Two enhancers, one for each disc type. In the wing type, it is present for construct 10 and in leg discs it is present for construct 9.
