a grocery store has estimated that each plastic bag it uses costs $0.10 to produce. This amount cannot be lowered any further. The chain hires you to figure out how to encourage customers to use fewer plastic bags. what strategy would you recommend?

I would devise the following strategy to encourage customers to use fewer plastic bags:

1. I would pass on the cost of each plastic bag to the customer because slowly and steadily regular customers would get use to carrying a bag with them which will reduce the no. Of plastic bags being consumed.

2. I would start a batch production of branded cloth bags and sell them at subsidized rates. Though this is a huge cost initially it will break even in years to come.

3. It could be highly possible that governments will start banning plastic bags and make it mandatory for grocery stores to charge a much higher amount for each plastic bag to dissuade customers from use of bags.

4. Posters and banners in my store against use of plastic.   

5. Set a value on which customers would get free and attractive cloth bags.

6. Run contests for ideas to save mother earth and have a monthly . quarterly price to espouse the idea of going green by reducing use of plastic in day to day life!!
