What is nutrients destiny?
Solution
Nutrient density
The relative amount of nutrients present in a food as compared to the calorie content is referred to nutrient density. These nutrients refer to proteins, vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrate, unsaturated fats and other macro or micronutrients which are beneficial for the healthy well-being of an individual. Foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish and unprocessed meat are nutrient dense, i.e. their nutrient density is high. This is because these food items provide a high amount of nutrients but few calories.
According to the standards set by national and international health agencies, such as the WHO, several foods are arranged or ordered according to their nutrient density. Such classification or nutrient profiling is done so as to promote health and awareness among people and also prevent diseases caused due to nutrient deficiency.
Thus, in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, the nutrient density of foods must be referred to and there should be avoidance of excess calorie intake.
